Thank you for visiting Birth Prep Basics and finding out more about the classes!

My name is Lucy Juedes (Yee'-dus), and I was certified as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in December, 2007 and recertified in 2010.  I became interested in becoming a childbirth educator through my volunteering on the board of The Birth Circle, and I volunteered with them to help an organization that had helped me over the course of the births of my children.

My husband and I have three children.  Benjamin was born in 2004 after a 22 hour labor and with pain relief help from my partner, a doula (birth helper) and an epidural.  Linus was born in 2006 after a 12 hour labor and with pain relief help from my partner and a doula.  Yasmeena (pictured above on day 1) was born in 2008 after a 4 hour labor with my partner helping with pain relief.

Since autumn of 2007, more than 100 families have participated in my classes and workshops.  I've also presented at a GRADs program for young expectant mothers and their partners, some New Mommy Fairs, several Birth Circle meetings, with mama*ology, and at Ohio University's Women's Center.

Most importantly, though, is that the class is about you and what you and your partner want.

Coming to class helps you figure this out -- and how to make what you want more likely -- by giving both of you the basics of labor and birth, practicing helpful positions and massage techniques, and raising questions that you can talk about with each other during and after class.

  • We didn't even really know where to begin to talk about what to expect   . . . what we want . . . etc.  This class provided a framework for discussion.  It was great!  -- Mom

  • In class, you'll find out that you know more than you thought you did about giving birth.  You'll learn from other expectant parents as well.  And I'll share what I've learned through my Lamaze training, what I've learned personally, and what I've learned from the other parents in our community (while maintaining their individual confidentiality).  You can go here for more about what other expectant moms and birth partners have gained from the class.

  • I enjoyed the instructor's knowledgeable, non-judgmental approach, sharing all delivery/labor possibilities; not one-sided!  Thanks for everything! -- Mom
